Website and Trailers For Brazil’s TROPA DE ELITE

This one culled from the pages of the mighty Greencine Daily, where David Hudson makes me feel like a lazy, lazy man ...

Tropa De Elite is the latest from director Jose Padilha, whose Bus 174 won much love on the festival circuit not so long ago.  Apparently Padilha’s latest has ignited something of a firestorm in his native country and it hasn’t even released yet.  The film tells the story of an elite special forces officer but not from any sort of rah-rah point of view.  Padilha captures a world of corruption and violence and apparently does so well enough that there is a movement among Brazilian police to have the film banned while the public want to see it so badly that there are apparently tens of thousands of bootleg copies already circulating the country.  Which makes for interesting copy in stories like these but does make it rather difficult for producers to make their money back.

Anyway, there are multiple trailers and video clips included on the website and if these are any indication then Padilha has made something worth getting excited about here.  Very nice.

Apparently it is being sold on the streets of various Brazilian cities, being talked about by just about everyone there, is the likely candidate for Brazil’s entry into the Foreign Language Category of the Academy Awards, and the film has not had an official release yet.  Oi!

Damn that looks good. I only could get one trailer to work though.
