Some More Thrills from 외톨이 (Loner)

We just showed the teaser a few days ago, and the trailer is already out. Looks like producers of new horror 외톨이 (Loner) [lit. title] are eager to bank on the surprising popularity of 고死 (Death Bell)—which, with a 1.3 billion Won budget and its 1.7 million tickets sold is the surprise hit of 2008, and it could even do well with buyers at the TIFF—hoping for a new horror trend to build. Loner does have a very good cast, with former child actress Go Eun-Ah, the underrated Jung Yoo-Seok and Chae Min-Seo. Film is directed by Park Jae-Shik, whose sole horror-related credit was acting as producer in the 2000 disaster 찍히면 죽는다 (Record). But the trailer here looks actually pretty decent. Go plays your normal student whose life is destroyed by the suicide of a schoolmate, turning her into a case of social withdrawal, and then the blood starts spilling. Film releases in two weeks, and you can find both trailer and teaser below the break.

Updates are coming thick and fast.  Many thanks!  Over at KFCC they have this titled as “Orphaned”, so I initially thought it was a different movie then realized Go Eun-Ah is in it too and that it’s the same movie smile

Korean horror looks very interesting again after a lackluster 2007 in which I thought even the well rated Black House and Epitaph were very disappointing.  Hopefully Gosa and Loner turn out great to lead the way for an even better 2009.

Unless I can find official titles elsewhere (KOFIC or distributors), title is always a (roughly) literal translation. I’m sure this won’t be the final International title but, hey, better than going with Wetori or just the Korean alone. Whenever you’re confused, check the Databank, so you can at least do title/poster association. Recently changed Gosa to Death Bell, for instance (I like Bloody Midterms a lot more, though).

Liked Epitaph, but Black House was a huge mess.
