LESLIE, MY NAME IS EVIL

Though he had some other titles to his credit earlier, Reg Harkema forced audiences to sit up and take notice of his work in 2006 when his Monkey Warfare took home a Special Jury Award at the 2006 Toronto International Film Festival, a prize hard won not only by the film itself but with the sort of street level guerrilla marketing that you normally expect to find with independent bands, not independent films.  Now Harkema is back, hard at work on his latest effort, the brilliantly titled Leslie, My Name Is Evil.

Perry, a sheltered chemical engineer, falls in love with Leslie, a former homecoming princess, when he is selected as a jury member at her hippie death cult murder trial.

Are you think Manson Family?  Because Harkema clearly is.  While the film is still being cast the director has cut together a conceptual promo that plays out like twenty years of American history told collage style and set to a fantastic bit of music.  My description isn’t doing it justice but you can check it out below the break in the Twitch Player.

Anyone know who sings the song?

    Thanks for the love!

That song is “Leslie” by the Pink Mountaintops and you can get it off their eponymously-titled first album.

Thanks, DJ, but someone else beat you to the punch. I first heard about the film at ONTD, and fortunately, someone knew more than I did. Great song, great work, can’t believe I had never heard it before.

If the music associated with “Leslie, My Name Is Eva” is any indication of the end result, I look forward to seeing it.

Oops...that should be “Leslie, My Name Is Evil”.

“Leslie, My Name is Eva” is a lesbian exploitation film about Hitler’s mistress!

Other tracks in “Leslie, My Name is Evil” (I have to confess I am the music supervisor) include, “Will You Walk With Me In The Morning Dew” and “A Child of a Few Hours is Burning to Death” by the West Coast Pop Art Experimental Band, “Black Grease” by the Black Angels and a specially-composed tune called “Will You Follow Me To Hell, Girl” both in acoustic guitar duel version and acid-drenched, fuzz tone, wah-wah, dream sequence version.
