Thankfully KITE creator Yasuomi Umetsu is not taking his sweet time to bring us another installment of his KITE anime. Rather than wait 9 years like he did between KITE and KITE Liberator he’s right back at it.Series creator/director Yasuomi Umetsu reports that he is now writing a sequel to the Kite Liberator OVA. The assumption is, he will direct this installment as he did the other two.

KITE LIBERATOR ranks as one of the worst animes I have ever had the misfortune to watch. It’s right up there with previous examples of borderline unwatchable soul-sucking pieces of terrible like RIKI OH 2: CHILDREN OF DESTRUCTION or the third episode of UROTSUKIDOJI IV. It turned a tidy profit because the original film has tons of fans but certainly not because of any merits of its own. My only interest in this sequel is rooted in morbid curiosity. Will Umetsu be able to have a similar drop in quality between KITE LIBERATOR and KITE THE THIRD as he had between KITE and KITE LIBERATOR? Only time can tell.
