The one hole in my Mamoru Oshii viewing is his contribution to the long running Patlabor series. I've seen the third Patlabor feature, but neither of Oshii's two, nor his contributions to the various TV incarnations but for some reason I always try to keep track of what's happening in that particular giant robot world ...
What's happening is a new series slated to hit North American DVD this summer. Central Park Media are due to start releasing the latest Patlabor TV series starting in mid July. No Oshii, but the talent involved is far from shabby ...

You really should check out the first two Patlabor films -- Patlabor 2 is one of the best things Oshii's done.
And there is some Oshii involvement in the Patlabor New Files. Although he didn't direct any of them, he did write the scripts for four of the sixteen episodes. The ep "The Seven Days of Fire" is particularly noteworthy.

Also, the newspost is a tad misleading as this is not a "new" series but a dvd release of the 1992 series.
The different Patlabor series are quite enjoyable and fun, and definetly rank high on my list of animes that involve any kind of "mecha" action as most of that type of shows are just plain.. crap.
