Seen this floating around CDjapan and some Japanese text sites for a week or so, now I know it both has English Subtitles and stars Tadanobu Asano, and it's directed by Kuzuo Kuroki I am putting a little thing here to let you know it's coming soon.

I had no idea Asano was in this ... The Japan Times have a review here.

isnt he in everything? seriously, he is damn good. probably one of the most remarkably subtle and charming performers on screen. thing is, dont know much about the film and the price of japanese discs is slightly too high. fingers crossed etc etc...

Funny thing he isn't that popular among Japanese. In Cafe Lumière he's walking on crowded places like subway-stations and no one even looks at him.

hmmm... just could be japanese behaviour. like riki takeuchi covered in blood in 'rekka' and no one even wants to look at a man covered in blood. also, asano has been around for ages too...

Perhaps those people were instructed NOT to stare at him?

i saw an interview about it, maybe read it in tom mes book... apparently, as with lots of scenes in miike films, theres no time to get proper permission to film and so they just go out an do it. the camera in the scene is on a roof or something, and he is just walking along, nobody does anything... one girl can be seen actively looking away / avoiding looking...
its japanese behaviour at work there, not think anyone is "special" because they work in films, just leaving them be. i think its fascinating.

I've had the opposide. My band is a bit known in Japan and I've had people stop me in the streets over there and even cry.
Don't know if it's the same with local "celebs".
