That the film's being made isn't really news at this point, but Grady at Kaiju Shakedown just had a wee chat with Tony Leung about his upcoming flick for Wong Kar Wai in which he'll play Bruce Lee's master. Check it out here.

cool report--a wkw + tony leung "pure kung fu" movie set in the '60s sounds like it could be amazing. 6 months of training for TL? that's pretty hardcore.
since the interview seems to indicate that this film will strive to be stylistically different from their previous collaborations together, i wonder if it's going to be less 'ashes of time' style "action," and focus more on straight-up kung fu? is there any word on whether or not christopher doyle is involved w/ this project?

From what I remember, Doyle had some disagreement with WKW when filming 2046 and left before it was complete, so it is entirely possible that he might not be involved in this film, even though I personally wish he would be.
The film does sound very interesting and I can't wait to see Tony Leung do something more serious again after the pretty bad, Seoul Raiders.

i remember a while back reading something about that falling out between doyle and wkw--what was the issue exactly? does that mean they worked on 'the hand' (from the 'eros' triptych) before '2046' then?
