I would love to watch Firefly, but it's so damn expensive to buy, and I can't rent it anywhere. Should I really watch the series before the movie, or do you think it might not matter?

Hey, where is the Shepherd. Other than that, it looks sweet, out-Star Wars-ing Star Wars every step of the way.

What Tracy said, do you think this movie will be of any interest to someone who has never seen Firefly? The trailer looks cool, but I wonder whether I can get into the story and feel for the characters if they don't get a proper (re-)introduction.

The film's apparently been designed to work whether you already know the characters or not ... it revolves around the River storyline (she's the girl with the funky powers) and it's obvious from the trailer that they're re-introducing that whole line in detail ... it'll give you the background you need ...

Looks nice. The show was awesome, too bad they cancelled it just as it was getting really good.

That was such an awesome trailer that I immediately ordered the Firefly DVD set after watching it. And I've never seen an episode of it, nor am I a Joss Whedon fan (can't stand Buffy or Angel). For $35 at Amazon, who's to complain? Plus, I'm a sucker for anything mixed with the Wild West.

You, sir, are in for a treat. I'll admit that when I heard the concept, I was a bit skeptical. But I sat down and watched the series with a co-worker, and I'm hooked... great characters, multiple story arcs that are all just dripping with potential, hilarious dialog (especially from Jayne and Wash), a little bit of pathos... it's got everything. It's amazing how well-developed and solid the series was from the very beginning, especially when you compare it to the Star Trek series, all of which took 2-3 seasons before they settled into the groove.
