Right! Of the big studio films coming down the pipe one that I'm very much looking forward to is Constantine. I originally had some questions when I heard Keanu Reeves was in the lead but the more I've seen of this the more I like it. Thus, I was pretty happy when Warner Brothers offered us some Constantine swag to give away. This one's a little complicated, so listen up.
Warner's has offered posters to a number of sites to give away, so in stage one this is a poster giveaway. Some Twitch reader will very definitely be the proud owner of that poster to the left when all is said and done. But here's where things get interesting: once the poster giveaways have wrapped up Warner Brothers will be dumping all of the poster winners' names into a hat and doing a draw for some much larger prize packages. How much bigger? Well, there are a few different prize packs to try for, but I'm opting for the big one. Might as well go for the gusto. What's in there? A jacket, a scarf, a baseball hat, a beanie, a long sleeved tee and two beetle pins in a lovely wee box, along with the already won poster.
So, you got that? Win our contest and it's a poster for sure with a shot at a big bucket of other stuff. You want it you've got to answer me this question: Not counting one-offs Constantine marks the third major Garth Ennis penned title to hit the big screen. Name the actor who played the irritating sidekick in the first one.
Send your entries, clearly labelled as part of the Constantine Giveaway, to me here by February 25th. In the meanwhile you can peruse the official site here. Sorry, this one's North America only.

Not to rain in on your parade, Todd, but Constantine will suck farts out of dead cats. Have you read any of the comics? If you have, you know the movie has absolutely nothing to do with Hellblazer. I mean, come on, Akiva "I raped I Robot" Goldsman producing? The first trailer looked like re-heated remains of I Robot and every blockbuster action movie Hollywood has churned out in the past 10 years. FFS, Constantine even has a special cross-shaped shotgun which looks even worse than the crossbow Van Helsing had. Mind you, Constantine won't be as awful as Van Helsing. Nothing is. Okay, perhaps Catwoman was.

Not to be as blunt as Jim Di Griz...but I doubt Constantine will be anything beyond the generic myself...My impressions from the limited information out there (i.e. the two trailers) is that it will be somewhere between Daredevil and Hellboy.
For the record...Daredevil was awful...A-W-F-U-L and Hellboy was watchable but (unfortunately) forgettable, even to a long-time Del Toro fan as myself.

i predict constantine will be best comic book movie since x-men 2. not because it will be faithful to the comic. it will just be kick-ass...

Yeah, blunt is my (second) middle name. My prediction is a generic, uninspired mush of an action movie, which could star just about any character, who blasts ghosts and demons with his designer shotgun, all the while dropping cliched one-liners. Take a look at the writing credits at IMDb, and forget Delano & Ennis who have nothing to do with the movie. Kevin Brodbin wrote Mindhunters (i.e. Christie's 10 Little Indians) and The Glimmer Man (ouch!). Frank Cappello's credits consist of No Way Back and Suburban Commando, both highly respected and praised by critics around the world. Not. Add to that a first-time director and a loooong list of producers (usually a bad sign), including that utter hack Goldsman. It's definitely starting to reek of Van Helsing and Daredevil.

I used to have a room mate who was a big Hellblazer fan ... I've read probably fifteen or twenty of them thanks to him ... I'm not expecting this to be nearly as dark as the books are but for some reason I just really like the look and feel of the thing.

Oh my God, I didn't know the man behind Mindhunters was writing this. That was one of the biggest pieces of crap that I saw last year.
But I have to say that the trailer looks mighty purdy so I'm still hoping.

Mindhunters was fun. What the hell are you on about?
