I am a little concerned that a listing hasn't appeared at the BBFC site to show details of the certification for Takashi Miikes "MPD Psycho" TV Series, due to start with Volume One at the end of January.
I've emailed the BBFC and they say, "Unfortunately, MPD Psycho has not yet been classified by the BBFC. However, works are classified daily and you may find it useful to check the database on our website (www.bbfc.co.uk) every now and again." But usually things are certified well in advance. It also doesn't confirm that it has been viewed and "not passed" or is "awaiting cuts" : so i don't know what to do. I don't even know who is releasing it in the UK or the USA (at a slightly later date)...
Anyone help out? I might delay buying the UK ones and opt for the "bound to be uncut" USA discs...

I can't see what would be cut in the series, seeing as how it originally aired censored, which was intentionally put in by Takashi Miike as a way to stir up more intrigue. (He would mosiac out a lot of the violence, and a few non-offensive objects, just for fun.)
The Japanese DVDs come with uncensored footage as a bonus feature, but the censoring is the way Miike planned it to be.
Otherwise, there's not much they could just completely edit out.

It's the US branch of Adness handling these in North America ...

The adness discs of the Sonny Chiba movies have been great so far so mpd should be well done.
I've been holding off on the only other way of seeing this forever and last heard March but I don't see any pre-order listings anywhere so i'm getting the feeling it will be longer unless they just pop up out of nowhere.
Time to try and find an email for adness...

Adness has a website somewhere ... I *think* it's adnessamerica.com but you might want to google them just to be sure ...

I've just bought the UK release, Vol 1. Haven't watched it yet, but i flicked through it and it is heavily censored. All the gore has been mosaiced. Presumably, as JFelix mentioned above, this was the was it was shown on Japanese TV. Shame, though.

It's a shame it's not anamorpic and the subs are burnt in. Is the Japanese disk anamorphic? I have watched this before and seem to remember them not being anamorphic.
It's a shame Miike thought the blobbing was a good idea, it takes away the horror a little.

This disk sounds like crap ... burnt in subs, non anamorphic... lets hope the R1 due out anyday is a bit better but i fear it will be exactly the same.
