Johnny Depp : Emilys' Friend in "Little Britain"?

deppemily.jpgHere's a rumour or story being published this morning in many of the UK tabloid newspapers.

You may not know unless your one of the few from outside the UK to have seen the popular British comedy "The Fast Show" during the 1990s, but Johnny Depp is a massive fan calling it his favourite show on many occassions, and boasting he knew all the catchphrases and famouse sketches. He even had a cameo appearance in one episode.

Now he has rekindled his interest thanks to McKenzie Crook giving Depp "The Office" boxset for Xmas, and now he's into "Little Britain" too : and, wait for it, he wants to play a crappy transvetite : a friend of popular character Emily.

Additionally, i hear Depp has admited to basing the Character of Willie Wonka in Tim Burtons new version of the story on Marilyn Manson : the pale face, the sharp suits, the menacing yet charming qualities... makes sense doesn't it?

Can you imagine?

"but I'm a lady!"

oh boy

Who has an update on Season 3? Word was that S3 of LB was already written by the time filming of S2 was going. But Matt and Dave would be up for a re-write, wouldn't they?

Oh, man ... that would rule ...

That settles it. Todd? We're going to England and getting scalper's tickets! Twitch is going pub crawlin'!!!

Nine months!?! You can go global in nine months! How long are they spending in each city?

Oh my freaking goodness! Oh my... Johnny Depp... as... Jenny Deppe? I'm shocked... awed... astounded... That would be so freaking amazing. Yet for some reason the only mental picture I have is of Capt. Jack Sparrow in a dress... oh well. Mack when you go leave some room in your suitcase for me.

there should be an official site for the tour : cant find it. seen the adverts though, spotted the dates for the shows now run well into 2006...

Little Britain is, at times, amusing. Little Britain is, at times, clever. But, in my opinion, Little Britain is certainly overated! There are far better exponants of British Comedy than this show. Lucas and Walliams are without doubt good writers, but this show is soooo in the gutter at times that it just goes too far. I feel uncomfortable watching it, I dont know why, but it just doesnt do it for me.

i agree with the overrated part of what you say : perfectly logical that anyones opinion may differ from what the "majority" seem to think. it is overrated... as for "in the gutter" well, i think thats something to do with the very british elements which i dont think translate easily when viewed elswhere, and arent that easily pinned-down as "trashy" or "ironic" either...

It wouldn't be the first time he's played a transvestite.

Im British though Logboy. The comedy is not ironic at all. Its too in your face to be anything else apart from down right filthy at times. Dont get me wrong I love a bit of gutter comedy. However, I feel that Little Britain just pushes the bariers too far at times.

It was Mr. Terry I believe that introduced Todd and I to LB so I blame him first and foremost. While I certainly enjoy my DVD of S1 and did manage to d/l S2 there are indeed stark differences btn the two seasons. I found myself chringing more in S2. Vomit is funny. Andy will always be funny. I think the one joke that made me chringe the most and they played the death out of it was the homosexuality/church one. Being a man of the Christian faith I hold to certain beliefs so one could see why this is so. A joke once or twice = ha ha. A joke all the time? eeeeh. :::chringe::: It didn't always work in S2. Which leaves you wondering where Matt and David are going next on S3.
But cheers to Mr. Terry and Logboy for their suggestions and incite. Anyone catch 2004 The Stupid Version over the holidays? I think the BBC did it? Fuuny stuff. And the Angry Kid special? Who Do I Think I Am? tee hee.

Hehehehe I think your right Mack, I believe I got caught up in the hype surrounding it. I have since taken a step back for reflection. I do agree Andy will always be funny, by far the best thing in Little Britain "I dont like it here!" I do believe they overplay alot of their jokes, and as you say, a joke is joke but to use the same offensive joke over and over is just not, as us Brits say, cricket. The big fat women in the health clinic and "im the only gay in the village" are just being done to death. I dont think they can take it any further now.

I missed 2004-the stupid version, heard good things abour it. Think it was on BBC 3. Didnt they have George Bush running over a tramp?

Have you guys ever heard of Dom Joly. He did a hidden camera show called Trigger Happy TV. Funny as hell. He had a new show start on Friday on BBC TV called World Shut Your Mouth. I thought it was really really funny. Then again I had had about 12 bottles of Stella, so maybe my judgement was clouded.

I enjoy Little Britain, though I haven't seen series 2 yet. I gotta say, though not related to this topic at all, I'm a big fan of My Family and will most definitely be ordering series 3 next month. It just started last week here on BBC America, but I think they're on series 5 in the UK now.
