Aiight. The trailer for Unleashed has been out a couple days. Sue me, I've been in Vancouver for the weekend.
Yes, it has a different title for its North American release. Yes, we're not particularily thrilled about that either. Nothing wrong with Danny the Dog. But then again some ignorant parent may take their child into the theatre mistaking it for a Clifford the Big Red Dog spin-off or something.
But if there is one Jet Li movie outside China/Hong Kong that I will enjoy I bet it's gonna be this one. Why? Because none of this movie is tainted by Hollywood. Action powerhouse Luc Besson has written and produced it [this guy is really close to achieving god-like status in my books]. Louis Leterrier learned some things under Besson's tutelage and we hope to god he learned from his mistakes in Transporter.
So let's pray for well framed action sequences, the absence of MTV editing practices and the sheer utter delight of listening to a movie soundtrack without a smidgen of hip-hop. Pray hard.
Release date set for April 8th, 2005.

There's nothing wrong with The Transporter. Geez!! This place needs to stop knocking entertaining flicks, cause it seems like you guys only dig pretentious crap.

Oh yeah, Unleashed. Don't worry about the music, because the score is done by Massive Attack and it's excellent. It's been available in the UK for a month or two now, or to DL if you feel the need. I couldn't tell you about the editing, but I can tell you that the action will not disappoint. Yuen Wo Ping never does.

Then tell me what happened to the 2nd semi trailer at the end of the movie? Doesn't anyone care about the second trailer of refugees? What has happened to the sanctity of human life?!!?
Never said I didn't like it. Just didn't love it. And you can only go up from there. Promise has been shown and we have Transporter 2 and Unleashed to see what he has learned. Firmer judgement will be passed then if he has not improved upon his work from the first Transporter.
And had I done a little more digging I would have also known that the Wo Ping was involved. My bad. But that news does kick ass. Jet and Wo Ping have a long history together. Can you imagine the planning stages? "So then I kick that guy?" "yeah. But try to do it like you did in Fist of Legend" "oh damn, I almost forgot about that. That was sweet, wasn't it?"
Happy new year crazybee.

Well, if by "pretentious" you mean good (read: not mediocre, even if they are entertaining), then I'm proud to consider myself a little pretentious. Of course the Transporter was entertaining, but just about every movie is, in some way or another. I come to this site because it focuses on the lesser-known, and usually higher quality releases, and pretty accurately reflects my own personal tastes. I didn't hate the Transporter, or other movies similar to it, but it could have been better, and I think that's all he was saying. I hope every director works to improve him or herself constantly, so we could be pleasantly surprised by Leterrier....

And Leterrier translates to "The Dog," innit? Funny that he'd direct Danny the Dog. And yes, Luc Besson is a god, for sure. He directed my favorite film of all time, The Fifth Element, and the films he writes/produces never fail to put a smile on my face. I'm hoping his next directorial effort is a good one, cause it's been too long since he took the reigns (though some would say that he takes the reigns of most of the films he produces).

Y'know I actually prefer the new title. I just find the 'Danny the Dog' one kind of camp ...

Unleashed kinda fits the gritty tone, but I like Danny the Dog cause it's different. Either way, the title won't matter as long as the movie rocks my socks off.

True, that ... I've got huge hopes for this one and everything I've seen so far says it's gonna be amazing.
