Oh joy! Just when I was left wondering what I was going to spend all my Christmas stocking money on in the new year the fine folks over at CinemaEye have made my mind up for me. It turns out that Columbia TriStar is releasing special editions of two my favorite Luc Besson movies.
Starting with the 1994 movie that solidified Gary Oldman's much chagrined role as a Hollywood baddie and put Natalie Portman in the spotlight Leon: The Professional.
And then we get the 1997 love it or hate it sci-fi bender The Fifth Element that introduced us to the idea that medical gauze, if placed in the right way, can be damn sexy.
I love both these movies and you can be sure I will add these to my wall of DVDs come January 11th.

Luc Besson: Not an attractive man.
Can chagrin be used as a verb?

So what is it with Mila and directors? Luc not an attractive man. Anderson not a very good director. Seriously woman! This gives me hope. I am going to sign up for film school tomorrow!

Not only is The Fifth Element my favorite Luc Besson film, it's also my favorite film of all time. I was so mad when they cancelled the release of the US special edition a couple years ago that I ordered the German one. Then a UK one came out, and so on and so forth (ha, I managed to incorporate a Zorg quote)). I've also got the R1 Superbit and the Korean 2 disc of Leon, but I'll be buying both of those for sure.
