11 animated films contend for Oscar

The-Incredibles.jpgOkay. It's only been 3 days and I have already seen The Incredibles twice [yesterday I was working and couldn't find the time to go]. Yes. It is that good. And AnimatedNews is reporting that The Incredibles will contend, with 10 other animation feature films, for a nomination spot for the Best Animated Feature Oscar in March.

Here are all 11 features up for nomination:
The Incredibles
Shrek 2
Shark Tale
The SpongeBob SquarePants Movie
Home on the Range
Teacher's Pet
Ghost in the Shell 2: Innocence
Clifford's Really Big Movie
Sky Blue
The Legend of Buddha
The Polar Express

Some of these, Clifford or Home on the Range, I don't see having a high hope of getting nominated though it must be nice to be remembered. And there are others, GITS: Innocence and Sky Blue [Korea's awesome Wonderful Days], that I wish get the nod but they may be too deep and philosophical, thus not 'accessible', for the general viewing public. But best bets is that it will come down to Shark Tale and The Incredibles.

Brad would get my vote.

Wonderful Days got a domestic release? Zowie. News to me ... it's got some truly breath taking stuff in it but some of the fusion of CG and traditional animation is obvious enough to take it out of the running on technical grounds ...

I suspect that as popular as The Incredibles will be, they'll give the nod to the more ambitious Polar Express, which, besides being an impressive technical achievement, is sentimental and sober in ways that the Academy members will find more appealing.

Forgot to add this: Does anyone know what the qualifications for a nomination are? I would have liked to see Bill Plympton's "Hair High" on the list, not that it would have had a snowball's chance of get a nomination...

i have wonderful days on dvd from good ol' ebay, but when did it get a name change/released here? and is that link in the news post supposed to go to something wonderful days related as opposed to gits?

That link has been fixed mac. I had to re-do this post a couple times. My net kept crashing on me. But all good now. Enjoy.

I would be angered if Shark Tale was nominated, let alone won. It should have as much chance of winning as Home on the Range.

The Incredibles and perhaps, The Polar Express might have the best chance. Innocence was good, but I don't think it'll tickle the fancy of the Academy members as much.
