Okay. So I saw House of Flying Daggers this morning at TIFF and it rules like lords. I already have my ticket for Kung Fu Hustle on Thursday and you can expect a report from me then. And there is a connection between the two...
They're both being released by Sony Classics. House of Flying Daggers will be released in December (17th) and Kung Fu Hustle sometime in 2005 shortly after post production is completed and it is released in China first. But that's not all. Sony Classics has already released Warriors of Heaven and Earth in limited release in the states back in early August. It is listed to open here in Canada on October 1st. And they've just released TaeGukGi, Korea's box office blockbuster. That's a lot of asian cinema in such a short period of time. And no messing about with release dates either. Among these four titles Warriors of Heaven and Earth is the oldest being originally released in 2003. It too was an Oscar nominee for Best Foreign Film. But it didn't take Sony that long to get it out into the theatres. Not like some others. Ahem.
If someone from Sony would like to let us know if they plan to bring TaeGukGi here in Canada that would be awesome. The Korean communities on Bloor St and Yonge St would be your best friends.

Warriors of Heaven and Earth was not nominated for Best Foreign Film Oscar, it was merely China's entry in that category.

Zing! How I let that one slip I don't know. Thanks for the accountability.
