Eat your heart out Peter Jackson because Uwe Boll is taking the fantasy genre by storm with In the Name of the King: A Dungeon Siege Tale. All kidding aside, there is a new trailer online and I must admit it looks somewhat interesting. The special effects has greatly improve since the previous trailer. Love him or hate him (er...ok, most of the latter I assume), the notorious director has a knack for conjuring up controversy.
Synopsis: An epic fantasy adventure based on Microsoft´s popular DUNGEON SIEGE game series. It is a tale of knights and kings, great courage and noble causes, magic and adventure. IN THE NAME OF THE KING follows the journey of Farmer (Jason Statham) from simple family man to heroic leader. An unspeakable evil army rampages across what was an idyllic, peaceful world, destroying everything in its path, looking to conquer the evil Gallian (Ray Liotta) and the ruling King Konreid (Burt Reynolds), Farmer sets out to find his kidnapped wife, Solana (Claire Forlani), and avenge the death of his son, who was killed by the evil animal warriors called Krugs.
Those attending the Fantasia Film Fest can catch the world premiere on July 22nd. Uwe Boll himself will be appearing as guest. Is anybody going to see it? BTW, you can view a large size of the german poster as shown on the left of this post over here.

I'm still looking forward to see Postal. This looks like pure cheese though.
I love Ray Liotta doing his best Riki Takeuchi impression. Anyone else catch that glimpse of Ron Perlman in this trailer? KICK ASS! Looking forward to the reviews from Fantasia but I'll see it no matter what the word of mouth will be like.
World premiere? No way saw this one at the fantastic fest in brussels and believe me guys it's a piece of shit.
I don't say that just because it's an Uwe Boll film, it was actually my first(and my last).
Ray Liotta is just hidious over the top in this and the FX are ridiculous, he just took bits and pieces out of LOTR, star wars and matrix.
Uwe Boll was there in the room with us and believe me i didn't want to be him at the end of the film.
After the film there was this Q&A and he just got angry at when people said you just took all the ideas of other films.
He also almost only talked about how much it all cost.
Just don't get it how this guy gets money to do this crap.
Give it to some really talented people.
Ok now i warned you all and don't forget to look out for the very silly medieval ninjas!
I must agree with can-D. In the Name of the King was presented at this years BIFFF in Brussels, so unless it is a recut, Fantasia or whoever else pretends it is the world premiere is lying to you.
I have to disagree with can-D on a lot of the other things he says though. Yes there are some borrowed scenes and items but what the heck, LotR has borrowed Fantasy staples from other films too. Yes there are some silly moments but then again, the film never claims to take itself too seriously in the first place.
And, finally, yes Liotta is awfully awful and then some in this.
Seeing as how the action director on this was Ching Siu-Tung, it's something of a reach to say it steals from THE MATRIX, when that film owes no small debt to the Hong Kong action template that Ching Siu-Tung was very influential in developing. Those "medieval ninjas" gave me all sorts of DUEL TO THE DEATH flashbacks when I saw them in the trailer, whereas THE MATRIX never crossed my mind I have no doubt that it's not a very good movie... but Jason Statham + Ching Siu-Tung + out-of-context ninjas + absurdly miscast Burt Reynolds and Ray Liotta + reasonably big budget = must see.
