After Afro Samurai, Eric Calderon Gives Us The Five Killers.

(Posted In Action Animation Asia Cult Drama Random Geek Talk TV Thriller Trailer Alert )

thefivekillers.jpeg"It's not anime unless it's entirely Japanese!" say some, others will quite like the idea that Gonzo give us the animation side of things, more substantial writing will hopefully come from the minds of those inclined to have a greater sense of where anime does and does not hit the spot for audiences outside Japan. Not seen Afro Samurai myself, simply put off to some extent by the westernisation of stuff we all probably started watching unintentionally in westernised form, but I would happily sit down to take it in if I was sent a review copy. For now, my money goes elsewhere, but I do like the look of this next project from the same guy, and it's a nice 12 episode series so it should be easy to take in, and hopefully will avoid the drip-feeding of an eternally drifting story. Wow that looks really good! I saw Eric at Anime Expo this year and he didn't say anything about this one! Complete surprise to me!!!

I'm baffled by the first sentence.

yeah... is that supposed to say "AS Gonzo"? Or "WHILE Gonzo?"

Anyway, this could work. My main problem with Afro was that it kept trying to have this side-plots, and make you feel sad when a character dies, or he has a flashback, when you just haven't been given the time to get a grip on them. It's evident from these side stories that he wanted to reign the pace in a bit every now and then, and this looks like it'll give him the chance...
It'll be interesting to see if the writers of Clone Wars (there were writers? there was dialogue?), can match a drop in pace, though.

Well, yeah, the grammatical issue foremost . . .

However, I'm also puzzled by the idea. "anime" is a word of such amporphous definition these days, definitions are only united it seems by belief that "anime" is something Japanese and that there are these things Japanese that define "anime." I think there may be a few high school students who think "anime" is only Japanese. OTOH, those kids could be right in that what people have come to love and obsess over has in it little exaggerated bits of Japanese pop culture that make anime "anime" to some.

we all know anime "translated" simply means animation.

I gots no problem with guys touting their latest effort as "in the style of Otomo" or whatever. "Fusion anime?" wtf? This is just another cartoon (could be good, could be not)

I agree, the "Five Killers" trailer looks cool! I definitely want to see this series.

Here's a link to a website with more information and short characters bios:

In addition to George Krstic (Clone Wars), comic book writer Mark Waid (Kingdom Come, 52, JLA) also helped with the script.
