The Weinstein Co. has picked up multi-territory rights to "Invisible Target" an ultra-violent Hong Kong-China actioner from helmer Benny Chan ("New Police Story".)

The Weinstein Company acquired rights in North America, Australia and South Africa from producer and sales shingle Universe International.

The $8 million pic will go out on release in parts of Asia next week with Universe handling Hong Kong, Poly Bona giving it a very wide 500-print outing in mainland China, Innoform in Singapore and Grand Brilliance in Malaysia. TWC has not yet detailed its plans for the pic's release. Asian Variety

If I were to hazard a guess about TWC's plans for this movie I could be a smart-ass and say they'd sit on it and it would never see the light of day on our shores. But, a glimmer of hope is that they take this title and put it out, at least a DVD release, through their Dragon Dynasty label. A couple years from now. After we've had it for that long on R3 disc.

Ahem.

They gave SPL a really quick and absolutely kick-ass DVD release (under the title KILL ZONE but whatever) so why should they even consider going back to their old douchbag ways?

It's hard to teach an old dog new tricks !!!

And if you know the TWC, then enough said.

TWC is doing great on DVD release.

However,TWC is still terrible at doing theatrical release (see what happen to "All the Boys Love Mandy Lane")

you forgot to add to the part about holding/sitting on it: leaning on legit import retail outlets selling the Asian non-bootleg DVDs thus preventing nerds like me from even having the legal Asian edition Region 3 DVD.

This is also something that they only did back in their Disney Days. I have yet to hear something along those lines from their new company.

yeah, point taken; the Dragon Dynasty ones look decent too.

As long as I can legally buy the Region 3 DVDs as soon as they are legally released in Hong Kong through online retailers, I do not care anymore what they do...

well as a film fan, I care but not as much.
