Could there be a film noir boom brewing in Scandanavia to go along with the region's current horror boom? Could be. We linked to Ole Bornedal's new film noir just a couple weeks ago and now the first trailer has surfaced for Norway's Varg Veum.
This film is a big deal in it's homeland, the first in a series of planned projects based on the writing of Gunnar Staalesen, a hugely popular author with an acknowledged debt to the writing of Raymond Chandler. How popular is he? Well, producers SF Norge committed right off the bat to SIX Varg Veum projects, two for theatrical release and four for television, so there's a lot riding on this. Oh, and if that actor is striking you as familiar, that'd be because it's Trond Espen Seim who starred in Erik Poppe's stellar Hawaii Oslo and will be taking the lead in all of these.

The title of the first film translates as "Bitter Flowers".
The second film in this series, Falne engler ("Fallen Angels") was actually to be directed by Aksel Hennie (of Uno fame), but scheduling conflicts forced him to drop out of the film. Morten Tyldum, director of Buddy, has taken over the reigns.
WHAT'S HENNIE WORKING ON!?!?
Todd must know.
