(Posted In DVD News Horror Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert USA and Canada )

razortooth_jprdvd01.jpgAtEntertainment Co. Ltd. (Atto Entateinmento K.K.) is scheduled to release Patricia Harrington's Razortooth on sale DVD (ATVD-12300; NTSC, region 2, in English) in Japan on August 3rd, under the title "Leviathan" ("Rivaiasan"); it released the movie on rental DVD (ATVD-12301) there yesterday (July 6th). Also, Twitch - in association with GOMORRAHY.com - is now providing a second trailer for the movie.

The screenplay for Razortooth was written by Jack Monroe and Matt Holly. The movie stars Kathleen LaGue, Doug Swander, Simon Page, Kate Gersten, Brandon Breault, Josh Gad, (Matt) Holly, Adam McCrory, Joshua Rubin, Max Rishoj, Gloria Payne, and Tim Colceri.

Here's a description of Razortooth from the production: "The bayous of the American south are infested with a hitherto unknown creature - mobile, deadly, and massive in number; an eel that is impervious to any of the weapons of man or the ravages of nature. When a small band of researchers begins to investigate the situation, hunting down the source of the strange occurrences, the tables are turned and the researchers must battle for their own lives, as well as for the lives of untold millions of men, women, and children who unwittingly lie in the path of the eel's destruction. ¶ Delmar Coates is the head of animal control: in these parts, the job usually means chasing down stray dogs or caging the occasional alligator. But now that both dogs and alligators are showing up on something else's dinner plate, Delmar has a lot more on his. So it is that Demlar enlists the help of his romantic counterpart Ruth (the local sheriff), fending off a local posse bent on revenge, and trying to keep up with a band of college youth and their indomitably academic leader before the menace doubles its numbers... and its toll. ¶ This is 'Razortooth' -- a grip-your-seat/lest-you-leap creature feature in the finest horror traditions, asking the question 'what harm could there be in three feet of water?'... and then answering it."

So when is this gonna have it's Sci-Fi Channel premiere? Looks like exactly the kind of thing they're showing nonstop. Interesting that this seems to come from a female director. Some nice gore in there, apparently (which Sci-Fi will cut) but also a ton of pathetic CGI. When will people learn to not try to make a movie full of CG effects if they only have a million or two as a budget? Why not use some nice old prosthetics and rubber suits? Probably because that actually takes more time to rig and film... Sad.

Man. The Japanese really know how to sell a grade Z horror flick with their posters. If I hadn't seen the trailer I might have been tempted to see this.
