Trailer For Spanish Zombie Flick [Rec]

rec.jpgThere are a good number of first person zombie films in the works right now, the charge led by Romero's Diary of the Dead, and while there's certainly cause to wonder when the whole zombie thing will implode under its own weight - there are just SO many of them right now - while there are still good ones coming down the line there's really no reason to complain.

And the rumblings that I'm hearing say that new Spanish production [Rec] is very likely the best of the lot. There is an English language trailer online and while it's very much a tease it teases well, showing a good use of mood and tone along with the ability to get that first person thing done believably while also making it actually look cinematic. Very nice.

This trailer has been out for the last few months. This is being co-directed by Jaume Balaguero (DARKNESS, FRAGILE) and Paco Plaza (ROSAMATA).

I hope it's good because I love zombie films. What's clear from that clip though is that someone sure studied the first alien encounter sequence in ALIENS.

I hope not. The teaser looks like it was made by some kids with a non-commercial grade DV camera. Romero's first-person zombie flick has to be better than this...right?

That´s because it's about a group of firefighters and journalist, using their own camera in a condemned building. Duh.

And it's not about zombis, ok? It's about a haunted house.

Has anyone read Kim Paffenroths book The Gospel of the Living Dead? Great stuff- especially his take on the survivalist motif found in the zombie genre. I'm also a big fan of The Walking Dead comics and just started Max Brooks World War Z. Is it just me or do we seem to relish the idea of the zombie apocalypse precisely because it presents us with hell on earth instead of the real thing?
