Yep, there's a bit of quasi-nepotism going on here which I freely acknowledge. Hey, I'm okay with it. We're big fans of Ryuhei Matsuda around here, his appearances in a string of films by Toshiaki Toyoda, Takashi Miike and Shinya Tsukamoto making him one of a handful of go-to actors for Japanese cult cinema. Well, his younger brother Shota has taken up acting himself in recent days, his latest feature being Waruboro, a typically Japanese fusion of teen romance and gang violence. Yes, it's been done before but judging by the trailer this seems to do it rather well.

What's the appeal of Ryuhei Matsuda, apart from being sort of good looking? His acting ability amounts to zero. He walks through every single movie he's been in with the same bored look on his face.
I think the appeal of Matsuda - at least for me - is that he's a sort of blank slate that directors can paint whatever they want on. There's always stuff just sort of bubbling away beneath the surface and when it finally crests it's usually pretty satisfying.
