Lee Sang-Il's Hula Girls was a great favorite of our own Opus when it played the Toronto International Film Festival - you can read his review here - and the film is about to roll out to US theaters courtesy of VIZ Entertainment. They've launched an English language website for the film here and playdates are listed there with the rollout starting in earnest July 13th.
Thanks to Mary for pointing it out.
Ooh... VIZ is quoting from my review in the movie's press materials. Sweet!
viz are still having issues with DVD releases; both 'linda' and 'taste of tea' are interlaced.
this would seem to be a basic error, needs sorting from the reactions i'm seeing...
Not to mention YELLOW subtitles. They seem to forget they're releasing a movie and not anime. Makes the whole thing look very amateurish.
well, yellow subs is an american habit - i've not read one mention of people liking, apart from vague hints that multiple colors in a certain company's subs help to distinguish between dialogue, who's saying what, and additional notes... i admit, they're useful... but you're right, they're ugly, they're harsh, and although yellow and black (i.e if they're over bars) provide the best contrast and highest visibility, the dow side is that same harshness.
