And none too soon, frankly. The current season of Doctor Who has contained, by my count, three brilliant episodes, a couple middling to fair episodes and a whole lot of junk. It has been, shall we say, less than good. But the winds of change are a blowin' ... In relative order of importance:
1. The Doctor is getting a new companion. Martha isn't being written out but will be off Who for the first half of season four, instead appearing in a Torchwood crossover, and the Doctor will reportedly have two companions in the back half of next season, his relationship with Martha having soured somewhat. No word whether the new one will be male or female.
2. No Martha in the Christmas special either. Kylie Minogue will be appearing there.
3. Russel T. Davies is gone as head of the show at the end of next season. And good news that is in my books as the show's good start has gotten increasingly repetitive and pedestrian under Davies' watch. Lazy writing o'plenty this season.
4. And sad news this bit ... rumblings are that next season will be David Tennant's last playing the Doctor. Weak season this year or not Tennant has become pretty much my favorite Doctor and I'm sad to see him go ...
Tennant gone? Damnit!!!
Davies gone? Hallelujah!!!
Second!
They are showing the show over here on TV and I have to say that this is god awful stuff. I just don't understand what people like about it. The acting is poor, looks terrible and the stories idiotic. Bah! Humbug!
loved this season, best yet!!!
The end 3 parter was a little lame but still good fun.
It will be interesting to see what direction the show takes when Russel T. Davies steps down.
obviously i am gravely in the minority but i have found all the seasons to be fun and enjoyable. I guess i have never looked for Dr. Who to be the best Sci-fi show ever. I am still amazed that it has come back in television. But then again i enjoyed Torchwood also. i do wish they could have a good 3 episode story arch like the days of old... but watching those episode they end up just being a lot of running from A to B and then back.
But tell me, how can the appearance of Kylie Minogue anywhere be considered "a good thing"?! Next you'll be saying you enjoyed watching Catherine Tate!
I loathed the Tate episode, actually. I don't know that Minogue will be a good thing - I just listed it as important - but she'll at least provide some tasty eye candy.
I'd like to see Sally Sparrow as the new companion - the actress more than held her own in BLINK this season.
I TOTALLY agree with that, said so all throughout the episode. Sally's a fantastic character and that episode was BY FAR the high point of the season.
