David Cronenberg's latest film looks to be a push further into the mainstream for the Canadian director with its slick Russian Underworld thriller feel. Actors Naomi Watts, Vincent Cassel, Armin Mueller-Stahl and especially Viggo Mortensen (who is sporting "DeNiro in Cape Fear" killer tattoos) seem to be bringing their A-Game character-actor talents to this one. A History of Violence (for the less in your face body-horror of Cronenberg's previous resume) is the current high-water mark. Let's just hope that the Point-A-to-Point-B nature of the trailer is not indicative of the film. Focus Features behind the project gives me great hope.
Trailer (Embedded Quicktime)
the trailer looks awesome and naomi watts looks fantastic in it!.
am I the only person in the world who thought 'a history of violence' was terrible? just interested...
Judging by that picture they really 'uglied' Viggo up for this role!
And no, "History of Violence" wasn't terrible in my opinion, I thought it to be rather good actually...
oli, i also thought history of violence was terrible! *high five*
High five for bad taste!
Oh yes, there are a lot of aHoV fans around here. If are hung up on story points, I can see your issue with aHoV, but looking deeper into that film and its aims, and it is one of the better American films of the past few years. There is a review or two in the archives here if you want to dig a little deeper.
History of Violence is decent, but not my favourite Cronenberg - that has to be Videodrome. Anyway, trailer looks awesome.
