Although Oshii is one of the few names to be found on the lips of pretty much everyone who has touched on anime or live action Japanese stuff, 'Tachiguishi Retsuden' ('The Lives of the Fast Food Grifters') remains something we've not been told of a license for - so, no subbed edition I know of at this point - but I've read of a first mention of an edition outside Japan, for France, later this year, and maybe there's a shift in subbing policies which might see a BR edition with subs? Who knows, for now, Oshii is moving on to the recently announced 'Sky Grifters', and has now revealed a female-led sequel to 'Tachiguishi Retsuden'.
Two key elements mentioned to how it works this time around, other than the female focus, is that it's no longer stop-motion at work, but live action. Secondly, there's mention of some involvement of Kenji Kamiyama, he of 'Ghost in the Shell : Stand Alone Complex' fame. Expected later this year, 'Shin Onna Tachiguishi Retsuden' looks to be something of interest, even if the most obvious mentions and reviews of the original found it fairly impenetrable, and I, for one, would love to see it make an appearance somewhere in a form I can understand along with many others who remains somewhat fascinated with Oshii's take on the world around him.
