A Quick Peek at the Ming Ming DVD.

Unfortunately I'm away from home at the moment and not set up to grab screen captures where I am but I've just gotten a peek at the freshly released Hong Kong DVD for Susie Au's Ming Ming and can't resist throwing up a few words.

First of all, I'll restate what I've said every time I've brought this one up: Ming Ming is a film that will divide audiences sharply into 'love' and 'hate' camps with pretty much nobody left in between. I'm on the love side.

Okay, the disc. As has been the case with most of the current wave of Joy Sales releases the transfer on this is top notch and the disc is entirely English friendly with excellent subtitles. Image is anamorphic, the print absolutely pristine with excellent color contrasts and very deep blacks, all of which are very important with a film as visual as this one. Sound comes in 5.1 and DTS options, the subtitles very well translated. Bonus features are a little lighter than you might hope but are very good for what they are. Tehre are two music videos, a photo gallery and a 23 minute 'Making Of' which ditches the normal EPK approach for much more intimate and casual interview footage with each of the starring players talking about their characters and preparation intercut with behind the scenes footage. Very nice.
