The Yip/Yen train keeps on rolling on to 'Painted Skin'

(Posted In Asia Cult DVD News Film News Sci-Fi / Fantasy )

Yen-and-Yip.jpgThere's gotta be a joke in here somewhere, something along the lines where the punchline is, 'Why don't you just marry each other!'. Lo and behold, after working together on SPL, Dragon Tiger Gate and the upcoming Flash Point, it should come as no surprise to anyone that if a project is announced with either director Wilson Yip or actor/action choreographer Donnie Yen that the other be mentioned in the same breath. Everyone take a deep breath and hold...

Donnie Yen is to star in "Painted Skin," a rare Chinese supernatural actioner being put together as a China-Singapore co-production. The $10 million budget period pic[ture] is to be jointly helmed by Wilson Yip Wai-shun... and Andy Chin Wing-keung ("Dragon Chronicles".) Chin and Yen also produce. Pic[ture] will lense in China in the final quarter of this year or early 2008, with dates likely dependent on [schedule] of as yet uncast female lead. Pic[ture] also features Singapore's Qi Yu Wu ("Home Song Stories".) With large digital effects quotient, pic[ture] is scheduled for delivery end 2008. [The] story about a love hate relationship between a vixen spirit and a group of humans is adapted from series of Chinese classic stories "Strange Tales of Liaozhai".AsianVariety
UPDATE: Donnie Yen reveals that the story is set in late Yuen Dynasty, at the time when demons and devils roam free. A fairy Shui Mei Ling who killed her lover 100 years ago turned into a demon, and constantly needs the heart and skin of man to maintain her beauty. As her time for reincarnation draws near, her last victim Wang Er Sheng turns out to be a descendant of the lover she killed, while his brother Wang Er Lang (Donnie Yen) is a ghostbusting master who is highly skilled, brave and smart.Wu-jing.org

While this is in production one may be interested in the TV series derived from the same collection of supernatural stories available on all-region DVD at YesAsia.

And breath out...
