We've been tracking the progress of John Bergin's From Inside around these parts for quite some time now, and why not? The film, an animated adaptation of Bergin's post apocalyptic graphic novel of the same name, looks to be absolutely stunning, fusing cut out animation built around Bergin's original 2D artwork and new 3D work.
Well, after a stunning teaser trailer and a host of stills we finally get out chance to see a significant chunk of the film in action. The picture is coming to the end of the psot production cycle and earlier today Bergin posted the first three minutes of the completed film online. Very tasty.
well, so far so boring.
doesn't anybody think this looks more like a tech demo for a game engine than the beginning of a movie ? look, we can animate trains and show them in 10 different perspectives......
i hope the 2d and story will be better because the 3d is pretty uninspired.
Well I'm sure the filmmakers will apologize for not having 200 million dollars for the film like Star Wars and Lord of the Rings.
At this point I'm only concerned with the story, having not read the graphic novel, but it looks interesting.

Apologees for the double post, and this third post...
Will the filmmakers also apologize for the absolute lack of anything significant at all going on in the first 3 minutes of their movie? Yeah it looks pretty good but a train riding for miles on a flat endless surface seems more like a screen saver than a movie.
Oh, please people. It's the first three minutes of a 70+ minute feature set in an apocalyptic landscape. They need to establish the desolation of the world before doing anything else. You want more action and more settings, take a look at the trailer which is bloody well stunning and shows a lot more of what goes on.
Having read the graphic novel I'm not too much looking forward to this. It's the bleakest goddamn thing I've ever seen.
Me and my friends would joke that THIS is how you'd explain depression to someone who's never heard of that mental affliction.
It's also very gross if they keep the pregnant woman's nightmares in. And why wouldn't they? The whole thing is one big nightmare, the ultimate feel-bad story.
Mind you, I'm not criticizing John Berging or accusing him of lack of talent.
The guy can produce.
The guy can write.
The guy can definitely draw.
Thing is, this story was just too much for me to cope with. It got under my skin in a bad way and left me feeling rotten for days afterwards. This might actually mean it's pretty good, but I didn't enjoy the experience.
And that was even before I became a father myself. Had I read it recently, it might have induced fits of rage within me.
This is the real blackness some of those "cool" metal bands so desperately crave to portray.
Read it at your own risk, and the same goes for seeing this movie. I love animation, but I might give this a miss even if I don't have doubts about its quality.
