Hell Goes 2-D In Dante's Inferno

(Posted In Animation Film News Sci-Fi / Fantasy Trailer Alert USA and Canada )
Oh, sweet, sweet lord ... how has this slipped beneath our radar for so long?

Melding the seemingly disparate traditions of apocalyptic live-action graphic novel and charming Victoria-era toy theater, Dante’s Inferno is a subversive, darkly satirical update of the original 14th century literary classic. Retold with the use of intricately hand-drawn paper puppets and miniature sets, and without the use of CGI effects, this unusual travelogue takes viewers on a tour of hell. And what we find there, looks a lot like the modern world.

Yeah, you read that right. An entire film animated using cardboard cutouts. And it looks absolutely, completely and totally stunning. Much as Klarlund's Strings stunned with the use of puppets this film takes a welcome break from the ever present CGI in animation and reminds us that there are other ways of doing things that canbe every bit as effective. Yow. Dermot Mulroney and James Cromwell provide the voices.

Had a chance to see this awesome flick last week, and it just rocks! Very original storytelling and animation melded in one. Oh and Dick Cheney's in hell. What's not to like about it?

Yeesh. You remind me that I have yet to transcribe the Q&A from the SF screening. Never enough time it seems. But, YES, I heartily endorse this flick!! It's a lot of fun.
