A tale of Two sisters remains my favorite South Korean horror flick by a wide margin and I cannot see what an American Remake will add to the equation (but then again when has that stopped anyone from going after a few $$$). It looks like the powers that be (I kid you not, the Third Assistant Director of the turgid movie version of The Avengers) have gone and cast Elizabeth Banks. Yep, Starla of Slither fame (or she with shower massager in The 40 Year Old Virgin). Word is she is playing the young Step-Mother. Does Banks have the chops to pull such a nuanced role off? I wonder if the Olsen Twins are available for the daughters. Anyone going to bother with Asian Horror Remake #172? (Still coming along in fits and starts are Oldboy, One Missed Call, Sigaw, Battle Royale, The Eye, Shutter...etc.)

ugh.
Indeed...
Also my favourite SK horror...my favourite horror of the new millenium thus far in fact. I'm sure I won't even bother to see the remake, nothing they could do (even with money) could make it any better in my book.
The original is truly brilliant, but I'm not opposed to a remake. This is actually one of the occasions where you can transport the story to another country and have it work just as well, unlike the Joint Security Area remake which takes place at the US/Mexican border (if they make THAT work I'll sing their praises!!!).
Also ToTS had incredible roles in it for actors to dig into, I can easily imagine thespians wanting to be part of a remake if the script was as intelligent as with the original.
But heheh, that's the big question isn't it?
Wait--they're remaking JSA at the US/Mexico border?!? That's only slightly less ridiculous than doing it at the US/Canada border. I hope it's a comedy.
Not again.
JSA into a comedy. That would be brilliant. Similar to turning My Sassy Girl into an urban comedy with Queen Latifah. Either way, A Tale of Two Sisters cannot be remade. It just can't. It's the only psychological horror film that I've ever really liked. And it's just so damn beautiful.
