30 DAYS OF NIGHT trailer

(Posted In Horror Trailer Alert USA and Canada )

30_days_poster_1.jpgMuch-anticipated in these parts (and others), the Sam Raimi-produced / David Slade-directed adaptation of Steve Niles' graphic novel 30 Days of Night finally has a trailer - and it looks pretty damn sweet. Vampires? Check. Arctic setting? Check. Hm... honestly, what else do you need right now?

this looked pretty fun until that music came in.

Wow Brett, I like "Muse," that was part of what sold me on this trailer (even if it used in 28 Weeks Later).

But this looks to me like basically a reinventing of Frostbite.

Still, it looks pretty damn sweet. Even if it does have Hartnett in it.

Looks like it actually makes use of the premise of a month without sun. FROSTBITE was fun but took place over about two days and never took full advantage of a great premise.

this doesn't look good to me.

You can't blame the movie for stealing from other movies/books. That's solely Steve Niles and the comic's fault. The comic was been praised as oh-so-original when it came out but the truth is that the premise of vamps in Alaska has been done many times before. Still, this trailer looks pretty atmospheric so I'm interested for now. As for the music, they should stop using any popular music in trailers, period. It doesn't matter if the band itself is good or to my taste or not. If it's got nothing to do with the film it shouldn't be slapped on the film's advertising campaign. This trailer would have been so much better if they had just used the REQUIEM FOR A DREAM soundtrack like all other trailers.

Well, I'm not sure about the vampires in alaska thing having been downe before, but the comic predates Frostbite by several years. I'm pretty sure it came out in the summer or fall of 2002 and that Niles had shopped the idea around as a screenplay before turning it into a comic.

So, I'm not neccesarily saying it's original, but it came about before Frostbite did.

That said, being only a 3-issue miniseries, the book wasn't able to really delve into the whole plot in a satisfactory way and I hope that the movie is able to do more with it. Trailer looks cool and I'm definitely looking forward to the flick.

The original comic was, in my opinion, a terribly overrated mess. Considering how short it was, there were many, many times I found myself saying, "Wait a second, wasn't that character just... ?" or ""Why doesn't character X just do (insert obvious action here)?" or "Is this comic missing a page?" It's been a long while since my one and only reading, but I remember being confused many times and frustrated with the huge, huge, GAPING holes in logic and plot.

@brett - absolutely agree about the music
