The tale of Lyra Belacqua, a girl who braves witches, the Church and sinister Gobblers to try to rescue her friend from the North Pole.
Bad move for New Line to think that they have to refer to LOTR in this trailer. That breeds confidence boys. Well done.

I agree, the LOTR whoring was utterly pathetic. Not interested in this movie.
That looks like the worst movie I've heard about in a long time. Seems like their trying to use the fame of LotR to get attention for this "I wish I was Narnia" sounding story. I will probably be taking a pass on this film. The name drop of LotR was really stupid, both in action and how they did it.
I understand it's not going to be for everyone, but I can't disagree more strongly with Aaron. The book this movie is based upon is one of the best I've read in many years (Fantasy or not) and based on the casting and the trailer I think they've really nailed it.
This couldn't be farther from "I wish I was Narnia", in fact other than the fantastical theme and a young protaganist, it's almost the exact opposite. It's a stunning story with amazing ideas and imagery, if the movie manages to capture just half of the brilliance of the book I think it's going to be fantastic.
The LOTR reference was a bit cheesy, but what about marketing isn't? Don't let it sour your view of this film.
