Lee Sung-Gang's Cobby The Fox (천년여우 여우비) Hits DVD May 26th

(Posted In Animation Asia DVD News Trailer Alert )

fivetailedfox.jpegAh, been waiting for this for a while ... the second animated feature from Korea's Lee Sung-Gang comes with high expectations considering that his first animated feature - My Beautiful Girl, Mari - is a much loved piece of work and this one boosted his budget enough to ensure that his visuals would match his story telling skills. I've yet to meet anyone who's actually seen this yet, but the trailers look fantastic and pitch this as the Korean equivalent to a Studio Ghibli film, telling a fantasy tinged story about a mythical, shape shifting five tailed fox. The DVD hits, with English subtitles, on May 26th.

Well, the trailer certainly looks impressive! I'm looking forward to hearing more about this film.

I for one am very happy to see a high-quality animated feature coming out of Korea. The last major Korean attempt at big-budget theatrical animation, Wonderful Days, was one of the most beautifully animated films I've ever seen, yet it failed to be particularly interesting or memorable in any other way. I'm hoping for better results this time around...
