[Korean Film News] Jang Joon-hwan to Shoot War of Flowers Sequel

(Posted In Action Asia Cult Drama Film News Random Festival News Random Geek Talk )

Jang Joon-hwan (Custom).jpgJang Joon-hwan, the director responsible for the impossibly wonderful and insane cult phenomenon Save the Green Planet (2003), will be making a sequel -- but it won't involve kidnapping Andromedans to save the earth from imminent destruction (or who knows -- maybe it will!). Rather, Jang will be shooting the sequel to Choi Dong-hoon's Tazza: The High Rollers, aka War of Flowers, one of the ten most successful Korean films of all time and winner of the Daesang Film Big Prize at the 43rd Baeksang Arts Awards. The film, which opened in September of last year, went on to sell 6.8 million tickets. Jang will first make the rounds of casinos in the Phillipines before settling down to write the screenplay for the film, which is scheduled for release in late 2008. Jang made headlines last year when it was announced that he would be exchanging wedding vows with Moon So-ri, one of Korea's most gifted actresses.

What happened to 'Fartman' ??

» Posted by stalin at May 7, 2007 05:23 AM

Noooo! :(

I hope this doesn't mean Fartman has been put on hold. Just recently i read about how he always wanted to make that film, even before Save The Green Planet. Besides that, STGP is one of my favorite movies of all time and it's singularily responisble for my undying love of korean cinema. I've been desperatly looking forward to another crazy masterpiece from Jang and now this happens. As much as i love the guy, i don't think that's an good idea. I enjoyed War of Flowers, but wasn't really overwhelmed by it. Well, i just hope his script and direction will make the difference.
WARNING: WAR OF FLOWER SPOILER!
On a sidenote, maybe he should rather do an prequel, that way he could reunite with Baek Yun-shik, or maybe there will be some flashbacks in the sequel.
END OF SPOILER!

I realize that this is probably a means to an end, maybe even to get financing for Fartman, but after the already long wait it's dissapointing nonetheles.

After SAVE THE GREEN PLANET, I'll watch anything the man directs. Would rather that this was an announcement that FARTMAN was going before the cameras... but at least he's directing something.
