The ever diligent Mary brought a number of news items to our attention related to our darling Johnnie To. Things have been quiet the last little while as we wait for some of his projects to wrap up. It looks like the wait will be over soon. Of course, we have to take Mary's word for it since we Gweilos have the Chinese language skills of a gnat so any translation of the corresponding articles would be appreciated.
The Sparrow - Word is, it is done shooting. It only took three years but it is done shooting. Johnnie To says that "The Sparrow" will be different from many of his other movies. How different? Well, I can't tell from the article. Anyone? Less guns perhaps? Is that it?
UPDATE: Yes. To be exact. No guns at all. To wants this film to focus on the characters and their love/friendship for and with each other.
Milkway Images - Johnnie has bought it back from Dennis Law. Again, if you can read the article below you're one step ahead of me. Tell me, tell me.
Triangle - Ah, this one I have more info on. Despite being invited to screen at Cannes it will not [yet] because it has not been passed by the Chinese Censorship Board [yet]. If a film has not been approved by the Censorship Board for domestic screening it cannot be screened on the international stage. So the reasons are purely political and a load of crap if you ask me. Keep your fingers crossed that the Censorship Board gives its approval soon. Because once they approve it for local screening it can be taken to Cannes. That's how it works over there. Don't ask me. I just write here. The same happened for To's film Breaking News three years ago.
UPDATE: Red Circle. To hopes to shoot in Hong Kong. Yet the script it not finished.

This Blogger caught some pics of To and Yam filming "Sparrow" on mid April (although he though it was PTU2). The pic of pickpocket warning (featuring Yam and Lam and Milkyway regulars) is interesting.
