There is no indication whether this is related to news we first reported saying Lau was adapting a Taiwanese comic book titled Api Sword. Still, I hesitate to say things like, 'Everyone is doing the period epic film thing', because it could detract from a potentially good film. But I guess it would be like a sudden boom in Western films down in the states. You could begin to get sick of hearing about each and every one that is coming out.
Regardless, here is the synopsis for Lau's next film Gold Bandits film thanks to MonkeyPeaches, "The script, penned by Gordon Chan (A-1 Headline, The Medallion, Fist of Legend), "follows an ancient imperial transportation company that teams with bandits to complete an impossible mission." Yes, it brims of detail and is quite possibly 'too much information' for you to handle. That is all we got right now. No cast has been announced either.
I just encourage Lau to bring us something new. I understand the appeal of the period film. I would just like to see directors bring something new to the genre. Surprise me Lau. Surprise me.
Our first report of a martial arts related project
I would like to see more period epic film to portray the battle scenes without the fantasy elements. I don't have anything againest it but it would be great to see something different for a change.
Tbis ought to be cool. If he goes the fantasy route, based on his previous track record with STORM RIDERS and the lesser A MAN CALLED HERO he's going to go balls out with it, beyond the graceful and tasteful fluttering about that's so the rage in these nouveau swordplay flicks, and into some pretty off-the-wall antics. I consider this to be an apology film for THE DUEL, which was just painfully awful.
