The first on-set images from the Ronnie Yu live action adaptation of Blood: The Last Vampire have appeared online sporting numerous shots of Korean mega-star Jeon Ji-Hyeon in the title role of Saya. Nothin particularly spoiler-y in these but it's nice to see the cameras are rolling ...
Thanks to Raku, who spotted the link over at KFC.
Am I the only one that was suprised to see Ronny Yu is no longer helming? And replaced by Chris "Kiss of the Dragon" Nohan no less?Sure this movie probably had little hope of being good but it's almost a guarantee. Oh and since when did Ji-hyun Jun start going by Gianna Jun? I'm still a fan of her's and remain curious to see how she'll do in an english-language role. I'm already putting my money on "not well".
Thanks Todd for the news item and thanks ijaffery for the clarification. I was also confused by the Ronnie Yu reference but I think you are correct and that Chris Nahon is the current director (or at least according to IMDB). I for one am hopefully optimistic for this project as I loved "Kiss of the Dragon" but I think most of the credit goes to Corey Yuen & Jet Li's awesome fight choreography. I haven't seen "My Sassy Girl" so don't know what to think about Jeon Ji-Hyeon/Jun Ji-Hyun as Saya but she definitely looks cute. In addition to English will she be learning Japanese as well (I think the movie will still be set in Japan)? I don't recall Saya having the dragon tattoo in the anime but it does look like her a cool look.
So to be true to the anime are they going to shoot a cool looking scene, put it in the trailer , then have a really short running time and leave you asking why is this so short when they had stuff in the trailer you didn't even see in the film?
I love BLOOD: but that's my one complaint about it. I wanted more, not less and seeing that there was more in the trailer kind of pissed me off.
That's just hot. She's been using the other name since March - personally I think it sounds like a pornstar name of sorts. Oh well at least the 15 year old boys (and myself) will be in line to see this next year. Stinks that Yu's left the foray of BATTLE though...that's one helluva body blow in my mind.
Why the hell isn't Ronny Yu making more movies? The guy took two films from failing franchises and made them far better and more popular than the had any right to be. Plus his HK stuff is great and even the kiddie fair Warriors of Virtue was pretty nice if I remember correctly.
They're still using Ronnie's script, at least, which is why I listed it as his adaptation.
Just to recap: A HK-produced movie based on a Japanese manga(anime?), starring a Korean, directed by a Frenchman, and who knowns what else they've thrown into the mix.
Are they trying to top Memoirs of a Geisha or what?
