Wolfman got nards and a whole lot more July 24th

(Posted In Comedy Cult DVD News Horror USA and Canada )

Personally I've never found that classic line to be that classic, mostly because I think "nards" is a silly name for "balls" and sort of takes the air out of a otherwise good line. But who cares?
Monster Squad fans will get the brand spanking new DVD release of their favorite teen adventure horror film on July 24th along with a crisp new 2:35 transfer (a first since the Japanese laser disc) and an assortment of fantastic extras that should please everyone.
This will be labeled as a 20 year anniversary release and as you can see on the cover they've modernized the artwork for those who have no idea what film this is. Click it to get a better look.
I just want to see the face of unwitting parents when a little innocent looking girl spouts the line "Come on guys. Don't be chicken shit." and the kids talk about "fagots" and "homos". But those were the 80's, when the world wasn't concerned by the PC way of life we live today.
Me, personally, I don't know if I can wait that long for this fine piece of celluloid but I can finally put my bootleg DVD to rest.
Below is the complete list of features on this disc that were posted on Creature Corner

I agree, this release has been a long time coming and I for one am definitely happy that its finally got a release date.

Also glad to see films like "Phantasm" and "Re-Animator" finally getting the DVD treatment.

In addition to "Night of the Creeps", I'd like to see "From Beyond" get to DVD.

From Beyond should be getting a realease very soon! A new HD Director's Cut recently aired on Monster or Scream so the DVD can't be far behind.

The restored HD Director's Cut of FROM BEYOND aired almost a full year ago (June 2006) so don't tell me a "DVD can't be far behind" because it already is far behind. I'd have expected it last Halloween and now it looks like we won't even see it this Halloween - at least MGM (who have the rights AFAIK) have not announced anything about it yet and they would have by now if it were one of their Halloween titles. Granted, this may have something to do with Stuart Gordon being nice and busy these past 2 years, what with 2 episodes in the MASTERS OF HORROR series, one brilliant if unusual (for him) adaptation of a David Mamet play and of course work on his new movie, the messed up true crime movie STUCK, for which he is currently in post production.

James. I don't know what you mean with films like Phantasm and Re-animator getting the DVD treatment. The films from those two series have been around on DVD for years now. If you mean that they get the royal treatment then yes it's nice to see Phantasm get some love but Re-animator was one of the first full blown SE's on DVD when the format became popular.

As for From Beyond. I'm sure a DVD release is somewhere in the pipeline, I've got a copy of that HD broadcast so that will hold me over untill a proper release is produced. In fact I don't know if I would buy it because I found out watching the movie that I think it's really bad.

Both Monster Squad and Night of the Creeps have been remastered in HD so here's hoping they will find their way on that DVD format as well.

Yeah, it's funny that usually when you wait years or decades for something to hit DVD by the time it gets released you discover it's a gigantic turd that you only enjoyed because you were 10 years old when you last saw it. Of course some people then flee themselves into a delusion of nostalgia, becoming apologists for terrible movies because they liked it once upon a time and connect positive memories with it.

Caterpillar - acerbically put (as usual!) but very often too true.

I never got to see this flick as a kid, but caught it at Toronto's Rue Morgue screening of the film, and then later rented the print to screen at Innis College cause I loved it that much. The film is fantastic. Witty script (SHANE BLACK!), gorgeous cinemascope image, great creature effects and a damn good time.

The film doesn't need nosalgia to be good.

Yes time has been kind to Monster Squad, mostly because of the script and the timlessness of the setting. The only thing that really dates it is that horrible rap song in the end.

I saw Monster Squad in the theater when I was a kid. I think I was 7. This will be a great nostalgia trip.
