Koch Vision

D.H. Lawrence has been adapted quite a lot. Not surprisingly the film adaptations have been the most problematic as they often have proved too gentile for their own good. But that is not the case here. This wonderful adaptation of Sons and Lovers is harrowing and heart wrenching as well as being beautiful to look at. When her oldest son dies Gertrude Morel becomes obsessed with her youngest son Paul who desperately wants to make his own way in the world but feels trapped by Gertrudes wishes. Fans will recognize Rupert Evans from his appearance in Hellboy but he shows that he has a lot more than genre everyman mojo at his disposal. He truly shines here as Gertrudes younger son. This miniseries lasts just over three hours and there are no extras offered.
