A short film, opening in May 2007 (Japan) Directed by Shinji Takagi (worked on Steamboy, FLCL, Jin-Roh, Blood) and character designs by Katsuhiro Otomo. Seems then, that you either spend an age on incredibly lush animation that's so much you tire of it incredibly quickly (Otomo's 'Steamboy' of course) or you get some lighter involvement with projects (this short, and the series 'Freedom' involve Otomo's designs - the USA DVDs start very soon, expensive though) and risk the animation being that rather uncomfortable 2D/3D hibrid that looks kind of lazy, easy, less charming. Shame isn't it? 'Mushishi', Otomo's current live-action foray, is said to be something of a turkey too. Where do you strike that balance then? I don't know.... if you put the sound down and play it in the background, 'Steamboy' is perhaps the most beautiful wallpaper you could hope for - and it moves.

I felt that Steam boy was a great and entertaining film and I wished Otomo would do more than just design stuff for others like he's been doing so much lately.
I thought Steamboy was one of the most boring anime movies I've ever seen, and I've seen alot of crap anime.
Steamboy is incredible as long as you want and expect nothing from it except bad ass looking machines blowing up.
