Marché du Film: Jonathan Hensleigh's WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE

(Posted In Film News Horror USA and Canada )

welcome_jungle_still03.jpgDistribution rights for Jonathan Hensleigh's Welcome to the Jungle are to be offered for sale by Bauer Martinez Studios Inc. at this year's Marché du Film in Cannes, which runs from May 16th to 26th. As was previously reported here on Twitch, Optimum Releasing Limited has acquired U.K. distribution rights for the movie.

The screenplay for Welcome to the Jungle was written by Hensleigh. The movie apparently stars Sandi Gardiner, Callard Harris, Nickolas Richey, and Veronica Sywak.

Here's a synopsis for Welcome to the Jungle from Optimum Releasing's website: "WELCOME TO THE JUNGLE is the 'discovered' footage of a quartet of 20-somethings who venture into the New Guinea jungle in search of Michael Rockerfeller, a member of the well-known magnate family who disappeared during an expedition in the Admat region of southwestern New Guinea in the early 60's. The group soon get pulled into a gory cannibal encounter."

Wow, how original. Is this a "homage" to Cannibal Holocaust or a straight rip off?

I hope this is a remake or someone is pulling off a major ripoff. Also, when you say the movie "apparently" stars these people does that mean you are unsure if they are in the film?

Strangely . . . this film doesn't even have an IMdB page yet and I've been hearing about it for what seems like months.

Hensleigh says he was "inspired" by CH among many other films and that it is neither a remake nor a rip-off. He has attacked online journalists for calling it a remake before, most prominently Ryan Rotten who saw it at the last AFM and wrote it up for the online edition of Fangoria.

Ugh, sounds awfull and really, really derivative. I didn't realise that this was a Hollywood production, from Gale Anne Hurd no less. That makes it even worse.

And I wonder what it will be called in Europe since The Rock's "The Rundown" was called "Welcome to the Jungle" over here.
