Distribution rights for Michael Chuah's Chinese-language (Cantonese and Mandarin) Malaysian horror movie Seed of Darkness (the working title of which was "Nephesh Seed") are now being offered for sale by Eleven Arts Inc.. Columbia Pictures released the movie theatrically in Malaysia on December 28th of last year.
The screenplay for Seed of Darkness was written by Chuah. The movie apparently stars Sze-Zen Wong as Yan (Ying-Ying's mother), Alvin Wong as Sang (the neighbour), Vick Teo as Kit (Ying-Ying's uncle), Amber Chia as Dr. Chen (the psychiatrist), and nine-year-old Jiun-Jiun Leong as Ying-Ying.
Here's a synopsis for Seed of Darkness from the production: "Seed of Darkness weaves a spooky tale of the life of a single mother by choice who decides to undergo an 'in-vitro' fertilization (IVF) process to have a child of her own. Seven years later, she moves into a new apartment and her child - a girl - begins to behave oddly, much to the bafflement of the young mother. Her fears begin to mount when she finds her daughter frequently talking to herself in the presence of a shadowy figure, who has been appearing in their new home. When she questions her daughter about this behavior, she is shocked to discover that the girl has been communicating with the girl's non-existent father."
