[Korean DVD News] I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK [싸이보그지만 괜찮아] (2006) To Be Released April 30

(Posted In Asia Comedy DVD News )

I%27m%20A%20Cyborg%2C%20But%20That%27s%20OK.jpgPark Chan-wook's follow-up to his ultra-violent "Vengeance" trilogy, the comedy I'm A Cyborg, But That's OK, about two patients who find love in a mental institution, failed to register with local audiences, selling under 1 million tickets and being quickly withdrawn from theatres. Unreasonable expectations? Too eccentric for popular tastes? In spite of its lackluster box office performance, the film has nonetheless received favorable reviews, particularly for its spectacular visuals, though even supporters admit that several viewings might be necessary to fully appreciate the deceptively simple plot. Park's film was the recipient of the prestigious Alfred Bauer Prize at the 57th Berlin International Film Festival. The science-fiction comedy is slated for release on English-subtitled DVD April 30th.

Nice price and box art on that LCD set too.

This is probably an insta-buy for me. Just way too curious. At least Park's fans have one they can call underappreciated now.

Jon, where can I pre-order this gem? I've purchased the poster and soundtrack from Yesasia but can't find a listing for the disc...

only place I've seen this is on the 'coming soon' section on dvdfromkorea. It's been there for a while but now it's missing. One would assume they're getting it ready for the pre-order list.

So BtoFu,
What did that LCD look like? And what was the nice price?

Awesome, can't wait. Thanks for the update, Jon!

the LCD set had me hopping too. Looks like it's the 3rd pressing since '03 and '05. Box art really surpasses the films' original posters:

Happy shopping everyone!

Ed,
I think BtoFu meant LCD to mean "Limited Collector's Disks", not Lee Chang Dong.

(But thanks for the tip anyway, it was still interesting!)

That's an awesome price on the LCD box set ($32 at DVDFromKorea). Hopefully there'll be a short peek at SECRET SUNSHINE included among the extras.

Can't seem to find the 4/30 street date for I'M A CYBORG on the DVD Calendar at 82DVD. Was it listed under the Coming Soon titles at Yesasia?

» Posted by Isao K at April 11, 2007 12:17 PM

Sorry ardvark, I did mean Lee Chang-dong!

4/30 was listed on dvdfromkorea. You know what they're like though - could be an extra few weeks although I hope not.

I'm expecting an initial press digipak 2 discer of Cyborg - it's box office flop probably cuts it of out of big box/DVD+OST+photobook type fancyness

That previous LCD boxset was prettier though, and 5 discs. But that's not stopping me from buying this one!

Doh!

I was wondering why there wasn't an "E" in that acronym. Sorry Ed, my bad...

no sweat, aardvark! the new, cheaper lee chang-dong reissue is roughly missing these from previous editions:

GREEN FISH & PEPPERMINT CANDY: OST, photo gallery

OASIS: director's message, production notebook, cast/crew interview, message from friends (other directors, novelist)

BOOKLET
