Dutch slasher film Slaughter Night AKA SL8N8 is one that I feel a personal attachment to. I programmed the film for last year's inaugural Toronto After Dark Film Festival - its North American debut - and the film was bought up for North American release shortly after the screening. So, I'm biased. But I like it rather a lot. The film's got a likable young cast, a talented directing duo (over reliance on hand held shaky cam notwithstanding), a fun premise, and a handful of truly stellar gore set pieces. The first slasher film ever produced in Holland, it obviously knows the genre well and plays things straight.
The North American DVD release hits April 10th and it's a solid one. The transfer is anamorphic and very clean - as you'd expect from a film shot digitally. Audio options come in 2.0, 5.1 and DTS varieties, subtitles in English and Spanish. For special features you get a very strong, 24 minute behind the scenes feature; 4 minutes of bloopers; and the original Dutch trailer. It's not exhaustive by any means but it's better than I'd expected for a little known film from a country not known for their genre film and they do the film itself up right.
Nice cover art!
I remember this movie well from TAD. Horror fans will love it, but I took issue with a few things. Still, I gave it a decent review/rating and I think it would be a great pick-up on DVD.
An awful cover. This is also not the first slasher film produced in Holland. AMSTERDAMNED has that honor, i believe. Which was directed by Dick Maas, who was also responsible for DE LIFT. And let's not forget INTENSIVE CARE and WOENSDAG. Two more slashers that were released before SL8N8 (aka SLAUGHTER NIGHT).
You gotta admit it beats generic floating heads.
yeah, but i prefer cheese enchiladas!
Is "transfer" even the right word for a digitally-shot movie that gets put on DVD. Wouldn't "encode" be more appropriate?
