After the debacle surrounding Flushed Away and the erroneous handling of the film by Dreamworks, Aardman Features has found a new home with Sony Pictures Entertainment. Hallelujah. Aardman entered a three-year deal with Sony, who will be responsible for production, marketing and global distribution. Sony recently released the very funny Open Season and has a new film, Surfs Up, coming soon. Dreamworks buggered up Flushed Away and the two companies soon parted ways. Too bad. Wasn't such a bad little film

In an interview with ScreenDaily Aardman head, Stephen Moore, said, "Aardman wants to make more movies, and different kinds of animated movies and build out the infrastructure to do that. We want to make those movies in the UK if possible, in Bristol. And we want to attract talent from across the world and also build the UK animation business."
Michael Lynton, Sony CEO, said, "Aardman Features is enormously popular all over the world. We believe that their strength is their unique storytelling humour, sensibility and style and we plan to bring their distinctive animated voice to theaters for a long time to come. This is a tremendous coup for Sony Pictures Entertainment."
Aardman has five films in development including three stop-frame animation projects and two CG-animated projects. They hope to have at least one of them green-lit this year and work towards releasing a new film every 18 months.
So does it mean that there will be a new Wallace & Gromit in the works? Creator Nick Park said, "What I'm writing may not be a feature, it could make a better short, but it's too early to say". And we don’t have to worry about Wallace & Gromit undergoing any facelifts to CG. "I'm a Plasticene man".
thank god! I grew up with all that Plasticene from Morph to Gromit and was not only horrified by the thought of Wallace turning CG, but think of all the stop-mo jobs being lost in Bristol...what did all the animators do instead during the production of Flushed Away? Thats the scary thought, and Im not even a stop-mo animator! Good luck with Sony.
