Big thanks are due once again to Andrey for pointing the way to the first footage from Fyodor Bondarchuk's big budget adaptation of the Strugatsky Brothers' novel Inhabited Island. Bondarchuk is, again, the director of the excellent 9th Company while the story on this one comes from the authors of Stalker. Honestly I'm shocked anything has been released from this so early and what we're getting is an extended behind the scenes reel that shows Bondarchuk at work along with extensive shots of the sets and creature effects. Very nice looking stuff on an impressive scale. Shooting is scheduled to last for two years with the thirty million dollar picture - one of the highest ever budgets for a Russian film - split into two parts, the first due to release in 2008.

Niiiiice. Looks fantastic. Here's hoping the script is as good as the visuals.
