'The Glamorous Life of Sachiko Hanai' R1 USA DVD June 5th 2007.

One of the labels to go a bit on the quiet side has been Artsmagic. They're the one's I associate most recently with attempts to break the back of the potential misunderstanding or prejudice towards films of this ilk.

Yes, it's a pink movie, it's about sex but in a way which applies it in a way that's hard to pin-down as easy to judge by our own standards - it's from a different culture after all - and yet it's commercially viable, has supported Japanese film for decades, and remains a genre for new material.

This is, however, perhaps more likely picked-up and of interest for it's political leanings. I'm glad Palm Pictures picked this up; it's had a brief cinematic airing, now it gets a cheaper DVD option and a hopefully wider audience. I'm first in the queue.
