Teaser Trailer for Miike's 'Sukiyaki Western Django'; Opens September 2007.

(Posted In Action Asia Cult Drama Trailer Alert )

djangoposter.jpegFirst sighting then, of video footage for Miike's 'Django' remake (of sorts) shows no sign of Tarantino for now - but, you do get those rather flashy looking clothes, a more dusty and impressive-looking townscape, a glimpse of that coffin and what lies within, plus some gun fights, explosions, and general action - but, best of all, a variation on the famous theme tune. Oh, and no dialogue yet, other than the rather cheesy voiceover.

This is going to be a pure-western style revenge between Taira and Minamoto clans, there's also Yoshitsune. It's going to be awesome.

That guy's been doing voice-overs in Japanese trailers for as long as I can remember having seen Japanese trailers.

I also have a feeling this is going to be awesome. I love the original DJANGO, and this looks to be a unique take on the story. Can't tell much from that trailer, but it looks gorgeous if nothing else. I'd love to see this get a theatrical release over here.

Miike mentioned that Tarantino's scenes aren't being shot until this June, when he comes over.

Takaaki Ishibashi is in this too? Hahaha, that's great.

sold! (but hey it's Miike) in the vast universe of film mediocrity this is going go to be real nice! I just hope Miike never actually goes west.

I like the original, but this is going to totally kick its ass. And it was fun hearing a variation of the theme song at the end.

I fear Miike will take the cynical, bleak theme of the original and turn it into some silly over-the-top costume fest, completely ridding it of its original atmosphere. This will never be as good as the original, and the sole thought of Tarantino appearing in this frightens me. That being said, the trailer is certainly put together nicely, but if I were Miike, I would have severed direct ties to the original completely, opting to make a completely original, creative film instead. Isn't that what he's usually good at?

For some reason the video doesn't work. I just get a error message in Japanese.
