Next For Aronofsky?

(Posted In Drama Film News USA and Canada )

aronofsky1.jpgIt's not his long rumored adaptation of Flicker or his take on Lone Wolf And Cub, which he bought rights to a while back. Nope. According to Variety Darren Aronofsky is in final talks to direct big studio boxing picture Fighter with Matt Damon and Mark Wahlberg. I'm of two minds on this. On the one hand a couple successful studio projects under his belt would give Aronofsky the freedom to do pretty much whatever he wants in the future and it's not like Damon and Wahlberg haven't put together pretty solid bodies of work. As studio efforts go this could be reasonably good. On the other hand, I want Flicker, dammit!

All the details here.

There is really only one reason why we should root for him to get this made, namely that a Wahlberg/Damon flick is almost guaranteed box office gold at this moment and after the glorious but financially disastrous FOUNTAIN Aronofsky needs a hit like a gun needs bullets if he is gonna keep working and one day being allowed a personal project again.

And by the way, he said during the press junkets for FOUNTAIN that LONE WOLF won't happen. He never even managed to get the rights from Japan, though they were trying. He said the Japanese would never let a strange foreign person touch something so near and dear to them as LONE WOLF AND CUB and that it'd be like some Asian dude walking into the offices at Di$ney and trying to license Mickey Mouse for a non-Di$ney flick.
